ZAGREB, May 2 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has refused to comment on media reports that secret services have known the false name of the runaway general Ante Gotovina for a year.

I would not comment on all that is written in the media, the premier told Croatian Radio on Monday, adding that the secret services did not learn of that yesterday and that the operation into that case had been lasting for some time. He again declined to say how long exactly the operation had been under way.

Sanader reiterated that there were no information which might lead to the conclusion that Gotovina, who is wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal, was hiding in Croatia.

The premier also declined to comment on reports that Marijan Pedisic, a lawyer representing Gotovina and businessman Hrvoje Petrac, was involved in the forgery of Gotovina's passport.

Sanader confirmed that all "that is being carried out" was part of the government's action plan which he presented last week to a European Council task force evaluating Croatia's cooperation with the ICTY tribunal.

He denied allegations that any information pertaining to the Gotovina case which was sent to the state leadership was obtained by his accomplices within 24 hours.

Sanader confirmed that his cabinet had a list of companies that helped Gotovina.

I want to believe that we can open (EU membership) talks, Sanader said when asked by the anchor whether doors towards the European Union would be open for Croatia in June.
