State prosecutors of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia to meet in Bijeljina on Thursday

ZAGREB, Feb 14 (Hina) - The state prosecutors of Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will meet in Bijeljina, northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Thursday for talks on current issues, including the case of Croatian Tihomir Purda, arrested in Bosnia on an international warrant issued by Serbia where he is wanted on war crimes charges.

Croatian state prosecutor Mladen Bajic, Serbian chief war crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic and Bosnia's state prosecutor Milorad Barasin are expected to consider the circumstances of the case of Croatian war veteran Purda, who is being kept in six-month extradition detention in Bosnia after he was arrested on the Orasje border crossing on 5 January.

In the meantime, the War Crimes Chamber of the High Court in Belgrade asked Bosnian state prosecutors to hear Purda, who is in custody in Zenica awaiting extradition to Serbia to face charges of war crimes allegedly committed in the Vukovar area in the early 1990s.

Purda will be questioned next Monday, 21 February. The hearing will be conducted by Bosnian prosecutorial authorities, while representatives of the court that has requested the hearing can attend as observers.

Purda's lawyer Josip Muselimovic on Monday expressed hope that after the questioning Serbia would drop criminal proceedings against his client.

The lawyer reiterated that evidence against Purda was collected unlawfully while he was subjected to torture in a Serbian concentration camp.
