Vrankovic briefed Burgess about the measures the Croatian government was taking to advance the economy, about the situation in shipbuilding and privatisation, and other economic issues.
Vrankovic highlighted the Economy Ministry's support to US investors. He said the government was intensively working on eliminating obstacles to foreign investment in Croatia.
Burgess voiced hope that more US companies would invest in Croatia and that the Croatian government
would eliminate the existing obstacles.
The United States is interested in investing in the power industry, telecommunications and the infrastructure, the press release said.
US-Croatia trade in 2004 amounted to US$569 million and to nearly $100 million in this year's first two months.
According to Croatian National Bank figures, the US was the third biggest investor in Croatia in the 1993-2004 period, after Austria and Germany, having invested $10.7 billion, which accounted for 13.98 per cent of all investment.
