Project presented for applying EU charter on small end medium-sized businesses

ZAGREB, April 18 (Hina) - The European Charter on small andmedium-sized businesses and a project for its implementation inCroatia were on Monday presented in the Croatian seaport of Rijeka.
ZAGREB, April 18 (Hina) - The European Charter on small and medium-sized businesses and a project for its implementation in Croatia were on Monday presented in the Croatian seaport of Rijeka.

Presenting the document Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect, Zlatko Komadina, said the basic principles of the charter are the education and training in entrepreneurship, cost-effective and speedier opening of businesses, better legislation, better access to the Internet, advantages from a single market, adjustment to tax systems, better technological ability of small companies, the development of e-business, better representation of interests of small companies in the European Union and national economies, etc.

Komadina said that in the European economy there were now 25 million small companies with about 95 million employees, making up 99 percent of all companies and 55 percent of jobs in the private sector. In Croatia small and medium-sized companies make up 99.6 percent of all companies and employ 65.7 percent of workers.

The implementation of the project in Croatia will be carried out by Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Istria County and Dubrovnik-Neretva County in cooperation with the Italian regions Friuli-Venezia-Giulia and Veneto.

Consulting companies 'Informest' from Gorizia and the Regional Development Agency 'Porin' from Rijeka are also engaged in the implmentaiton of the project.

The aim of the project is to help county authorities in the introduction of political changes and projects which support small and medium-sized businesses and in the country's preparations for its admission to the European Union.
