SARAJEVO, April 13 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina's Foreign Ministry will soon appoint a charge d'affaires to take charge of the country's Embassy in Zagreb, ministry spokeswoman Lepa Babic announced in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

Babic said that the purpose of the appointment of the charge d'affaires was to bridge the gap until the appointment and approval of a new ambassador to Croatia.

The term of the present Ambassador, Zlatko Dizdarevic, expires this week, and he will return to Sarajevo to take up a position at the ministry's headquarters.

At the moment the highest-ranking diplomat at the Bosnian Embassy in Zagreb is Minister-Counsellor Milan Krizanovic. The Foreign Ministry believes that Bosnia-Herzegovina should be diplomatically represented in Zagreb at least at the level of charge d'affaires for the time being.

Babic said that the refusal by the Croatian authorities to approve Branko Kesic as new ambassador had not compromised relations between the two countries, and added that the appointment of a charge d'affaires should be viewed "as a technical rather than a political gesture".

It was not clear who might be appointed as charge d'affaires. According to the existing rules, a new charge d'affaires might be named within the next two weeks.
