ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said on Monday it was possible that the results of the forthcoming local elections would affect the ruling coalition at the national level and that new coalitions might be formed in the government and the parliament.

Speaking in a Croatian Radio programme, Seks rejected the possibility of early parliamentary elections after the local elections, scheduled for May 15.

Since the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party left to its branches to decide with which parties they would enter into a coalition at the local level, Seks said he did not rule out possible coalitions with the strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the People's Party (HNS).

Asked to comment on a recent parliamentary debate on a declaration on antifascism, sponsored by the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) and the SDP, Seks said he was very disappointed about the debate, saying that it had been marked by outrageous remarks and insults.

Seks said he was not satisfied with the work of parliamentary inquiry commissions because they had all been set up for the purposes of the political struggle among the parties.

The parliament speaker announced that in mid-May he would attend a ceremony commemorating Croatian Ustasha and Home Guard troops and civilians who had been executed by Yugoslav Partisans at Bleiburg, Austria, at the end of World War Two 60 years ago.
