SARAJEVO, April 3 (Hina) - The news about the death of Pope John Paul II hit the covers of Sunday's issues of papers published in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The electronic media too focused on the developments in the Vatican.

The state-run BHT 1 television as well as television networks in the country's two entities on Saturday evening interrupted programmes to bring news of the death of the Holy Father. TV stations then aired programmes about the life and work of Karol Wojtyla, praising him for his efforts to contribute to peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina which he visited twice, in 1997 and 2003.

The Dnevni Avaz daily on Sunday ran articles on the last days of the Roman Catholic pontiff and carried statements by world statesmen about the deceased pope. It also carried messages which Wojtyla made during his two pastoral visits to Sarajevo and Banja Luka.

Another daily, 'Oslobodjenje', described the Holy Father as one of the greatest people of the 20th century. It recalled that during his visit to Sarajevo in 1997 the pope said that "one should be able to ask for forgiveness and to forgive" and that he told Bosnians to place their trust in God and start from the beginning.

The Banja Luka-based daily 'Nezavisne Novine' reported that during the last days of the pope's life, religious services were held and vigils kept for the ailing pope all over Bosnia. The paper carried comments by the global media saying the pope was one of the most prominent figures of the 20th century.
