Defence Minister Luc Frieden of current EU president Luxembourg, a representative of Great Britain, the next EU president, and a representative of EU foreign and security policy chief Javier Solana informed the representatives of the four EU candidates and of Norway and Iceland, which are not in the EU but are in NATO, about an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Luxembourg yesterday.
The EU defence ministers discussed Operation Altea in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the combat units the Union decided to form within the development of its military capacity.
At today's meeting Roncevic applauded the successful implementation of Altea and said Croatia would continue to support the EU mission in Bosnia.
Frieden said the Union was considering reducing the number of troops in Altea because the security situation in Bosnia had improved. He added there would be less soldiers but more police.
Roncevic said Croatia was willing to contribute to the formation of 13 EU combat units by 2007 whereby the Union will be able to carry out swift operations in cases of world crises.
He also said Croatia was committed to the international war on terror and underlined the importance of regional cooperation and exchange of data in the process.
