The HRT said in a statement it was aware of its obligations towards the public stemming from the HRT Act, but that figures pertaining to its marketing operations were confidential and could not be released regardless of who was being advertised.
The statement, signed by HRT's public relations chief Janos Roemer, said that the business policies of public networks in similar countries were the same.
According to the statement, if there are particular reasons why the costs of presidential campaigns should be revealed, there are other sources which should be contacted, primarily candidates' election headquarters, which are obliged to reveal such costs, and the State Election Commission (DIP).
The HRT will make an exception and reveal the costs if the DIP requests so, but will ask that all other media reveal the costs as well, the statement read.
