Speaking to reporters in Sarajevo, where he is on a two-day official visit, Khatami said that putting an end to "interference from the outside" was the key factor in stabilising the situation in current crisis areas.
"The peoples of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran, Iraq and Palestine are mature enough to take their destiny into their own hands. Assistance to those peoples is welcome, but they do not need others to decide about their fate while satisfying their own interests," Khatami said.
Indirectly criticising the policies of the United States and Israel, Khatami made a similar assessment when asked about the situation in Lebanon after the announced withdrawal of Syrian forces.
He said that one should prevent conspiracies from the outside and those who use the situation in Lebanon to support what he called the Zionist regime.
During a meeting with the President of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Borislav Paravac, earlier in the day, Khatami announced that the Iranian government would assist the return of refugees in Bosnia-Herzegovina with two million dollars.
He called for a closer economic cooperation between the two countries and announced capital investments in Bosnia, including the construction of hydroelectric power plants.
