Croatian army officer joins UN observer mission in Georgia

ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - Croatian Army Captain Dragan Crnogaj departedfrom Zagreb airport for Georgia on Tuesday morning to join the UnitedNations observer mission (UNOMIG) in the former Soviet republic as anunarmed military observer.
ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - Croatian Army Captain Dragan Crnogaj departed from Zagreb airport for Georgia on Tuesday morning to join the United Nations observer mission (UNOMIG) in the former Soviet republic as an unarmed military observer.

Captain Crnogaj will be the first officer of the Croatian Armed Forces to serve in this mission, which was launched in August 1993.

The purpose of the UNOMIG mission is to oversee compliance with the cease-fire agreement signed by the Republic of Georgia, the Abkhaz authorities and the Russian Federation. The mission commander is Major General Hussein Ahmed Ghobashi of Egypt.

The mission consists of military personnel from Great Britain, Ukraine, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Poland, Pakistan, Germany, Hungary, Jordan, Indonesia, Greece, France, Egypt, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Bangladesh, Albania and Austria.
