WASHINGTON, Feb 26 (Hina) - The issue of runaway Croatian General
Ante Gotovina, who is wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, must
be closed as talks on Croatia's Euro-Atlantic integration are under way, Voice
of America quoted US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Pierre-Richard
Prosper as saying on Saturday. He said both the United States and the EU had clearly told Croatia the
Gotovina issue must be closed so that Croatia's Euro-Atlantic integration could
continue.
Prosper said he knew the EU would closely follow the Gotovina issue
before deciding to open entry negotiations with Croatia on March 17.
The ambassador spoke about problems in trying war crimes indictees in
areas such as Darfur, Rwanda and Croatia at Washington's Brookings
