He told Hina that votes from some 50 Croatian towns where the displaced from Vukovar had been staying affected the election results in Vukovar during the local polls four years ago.
SDSS Executive Committee chairman Boro Rkman said it was not logical to allow the displaced from Vukovar to vote outside the town if this was not allowed, for example, for Serbs from Petrinja who were also waiting to return to prewar homes.
Rkman said the consistent enforcement of electoral legislation would prevent any possibility of manipulation of the electoral results in Vukovar.
According to figures of the local office for displaced persons and refugees, to date 11,833 residents have returned to Vukovar, 53.6 percent of those displaced since 1991, while 2,302 are still registered as displaced persons living outside Vukovar. About 6,000 are estimated to have lost displaced person status for various reasons.
