his own before an indictment wasissued against him.

general Ante Gotovina said at a panel discussion in the southern coastal city
of Split on Thursday evening that Gotovina had been offered a deal to go to The
Hague on his own before an indictment was issued against him.Hague tribunal officials offered Gotovina a deal by saying, "You have
two dead men, (President Franjo) Tudjman and (Defence Minister Gojko) Susak,
you can pin it all on them," but the general resolutely rejected the offer,
saying that he would take the responsibility for his deeds on his own, lawyer
Marin Ivanovic said in a packed hall of the archdiocesan seminary.
Ivanovic said that Gotovina had never agreed to offers of secret talks
with the Hague tribunal and insisted on following official procedure.
