Croatian culture minister ends visit to US

WASHINGTON, Feb 10 (Hina) - Croatian Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic on Wednesday ended his visit to the United States.

Biskupic's visit to the US lasted between February 1 and 9. He signed a US-Croatian agreement on cultural cooperation and an agreement on cooperation with the Congress library. The talks he held with US officials focused on the US-Croatia political relations.

At a news conference held at the end of his trip, the Croatian minister said his visit to the US was very successful.

Biskupic met Kathleen Stephens, Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs, in the State Department on Tuesday and talked about the strengthening of the two countries' cooperation. He asked Stephens for the US support in Croatia's aspirations to join the EU.

"Kathleen Stephens said she entirely supported Croatia's efforts to join the European Union, but added that this did not mean that there were no outstanding issues," Biskupic told the press,

He added the talks also focused on Croatia's cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Biskupic said the talks did not tackle the alleged non-paper by which, according to the media, the US asked of European countries not to give Croatia a date for the start of its EU entry talk unless Croatia showed it fully cooperated with the ICTY, which meant the extradition of general Ante Gotovina.
