SUBOTICA, Feb 21 (Hina) - The Croat National Council (HNV) in Serbia and Montenegro on Monday sent a letter to Television Novi Sad requesting it to establish a Croatian-language desk so that the Croat minority could exercise the right to receive information through the state television in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina.

The HNV also requested that Television Novi Sad withdraw the lawsuits it filed against Croat reporters Dusica Dulic and Zvonimir Perusic, saying that otherwise it would sue the TV station for violating the equality of citizens and damaging the reputation of the two reporters.

Television Novi Sad has sued reporter Dusica Dulic and producer Zvonimir Perusic for "spreading misinformation that incites hatred between the majority people and members of the (minority) Croat community".

Dulic and Perusic recently complained that the leadership of that TV station had refused, without any official explanation, to air the only Croatian-language programme "Tragom hrvatskim" on 17 October last year. This was the fourth time the only Croatian-language programme was banned.

The municipal court in Novi Sad recently said that the case did not fall under its jurisdiction, so the proceedings will most likely continue before the district court.

The HNV said that unlike other minorities living in Vojvodina, the Croat minority still does not exercise the right to receive information in its own language on the national television.
