"Bilateral relations are at a very high level. We are linked by tradition, history, common roots, all of which should be used by our diplomats," Yushchenko said at a news conference in Zagreb after he attended the inauguration of the re-elected Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
After meeting Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, Yushchenko said the two countries had the same priorities including EuroAtlantic integration processes.
He added that he and his Croatian hosts agreed that it was necessary to liberalise visa regimes and promote economic relations and investment.
Commenting on Kiev's relations with the Russian Federation and the European Union, the Ukrainian head of state said both were Ukraine's strategic partners.
Asked about his dioxin poisoning, Yushchenko said he was the first man to have been poisoned with that toxin through food and that a special team of scientists had been set up to remove poison residues from his body.
"I still cannot get used to my appearance. But I am happy to be alive and mobile," he said thanking millions of Ukrainians who had been praying for his health.
