"'Unnamed political officials' and journalists who call for ruthless attacks on their colleagues and people with different opinions are trying to convince the public that the labelled journalists really are foreign agents and national traitors," reads the letter, signed on behalf of the six journalists by Ivica Djikic, a reporter for the Feral Tribune weekly.
Without naming any names, the reporters said that they were receiving threats from "a group of journalists who have made it their task to protect secret services from their colleagues", and added that they would inform relevant international bodies of their situation.
Reporters Zeljko Peratovic of the Vjesnik daily, Ivanka Toma and Mario Kavain of the Jutarnji List daily, Gordan Malic of the Globus weekly, Boris Pavelic of the Novi List daily, and Ivica Djikic last week urged state institutions to investigate claims by the Globus weekly that they were under surveillance by the POA in 2003 and 2004, when the POA was headed by Franjo Turek, because of their reports on investigations by the Hague war crimes tribunal, the operation of secret services, etc.
