NASICE, Feb 12 (Hina) - The first collection of poems by Slovak poets from Croatia, called "Tuzby" ("Longings" in an unofficial translation), was presented in the eastern town of Nasice on Saturday.

Slovak Ambassador Jan Petrik commended the book's publication, saying that Slovaks in Croatia were known for having preserved their original customs. He added it was also important to preserve one's native language.

Speaking on behalf of the Croatian Science and Education Ministry, Mirko Markovic said the government's position was that all ethnic minorities should preserve their identities. He added publishing was one way of doing it.

Nasice Mayor Zdravko Roncevic received a delegation of the Slovak town of Zlatne Moravce with Mayor Serafin Osrihonjov at the helm. They talked about future cooperation between the two friendly towns.

According to the 2001 census, there are 4,712 Slovaks living in Croatia, of whom 964 in the Nasice area. Nasice is also the seat of the Alliance of Slovaks in Croatia.
