Croatia's Kostelic wins third gold in world championships

SANTA CATERINA, Feb 11 (Hina) - Janica Kostelic of Croatia won the women's slalom at the world championships in Santa Caterina, Italy, on Friday.

Kostelic won her third gold at the championships with a time of 1:47.98 minutes. Tanja Poutiainen of Finland came 0.18 seconds behind, winning the silver, while Sarka Zahrobska of the Czech Republic won the bronze at 0.67 seconds behind Kostelic.

Two other Croats came in the Top Ten -- Ana Jelusic coming ninth, 1.35 seconds behind Kostelic, and Nika Fleiss tenth, 2.01 seconds behind Kostelic.

Kostelic's first two golds in Santa Caterina came on February 6, when she won the downhill, and on February 4, when she won the combined.

Kostelic has so far won three Olympic gold medals, in giant slalom, slalom and combined, and one silver in super-G which she won at the 2002 Olympic Games at Salt Lake City, the United States.

Besides, Kostelic also has gold medals from the 2003 World Championships in the combined and the slalom.

She has 20 World Cup wins -- 17 in the slalom, 3 in the combined.

She was also the overall champion in the World Cup in 2003 and 2001, and the slalom champion in 2003 and 2001.
