ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - Croatia's Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Dragan Primorac, and a delegation of Croatian scientists and trade unions are on a working visit to Israel to establish cooperation with Israeli institutions in the area of science and technology.

Primorac met on Tuesday with the Chair of the Israeli Parliament's Science and Technology Committee, Lea Nessi, and the Chair of the Education and Culture Committee, Mali Polishook-Bloch, for talks on cooperation between the two countries.

They agreed that there were great opportunities and that the two countries were ready for cooperation, the Croatian ministry said in a statement.

Speaking on behalf of the president of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, Primorac proposed an agreement on cooperation between the Croatian and Israeli academies, which was welcomed by the Director of the Israeli Academy, Meira Zadok.

The Deputy Director-General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Mark Soffer, said that Israel was pleased that it would soon open an embassy in Zagreb.

Primorac and Soffer agreed that political relations between the two countries were very good and that all the necessary conditions had been created for successful scientific and economic cooperation.

Scientists and members of the Managing Board of the Rudjer Boskovic Institute will visit the Weizmann Institute where they will talk about models of management in this institute and its role in the economic development of Israel.

Representatives of the Croatian Naval Engineering Institute and the Business Innovation Centre will visit the Institute of Technology, Technion, and a number of technology parks and start-up companies to look into the possibility of launching joint technological projects and establishing incubation centres in Croatia using the successful Israeli model, the statement said.

The Croatian delegation is also due to meet the director-general of the Israeli Ministry of Science, representatives of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Authority and the minister of education, culture and sport.

The Croatian delegation will stay in Israel until February 10.
