SPLIT, Feb 10 (Hina) - The County Prosecutor's Office in the southern
coastal city of Split issued a statement on Thursday saying that an
investigation had shown that there were no reasonable grounds to suspect that
conscripts or any other persons in Lora and other military barracks had been
raped or sexually abused. The investigation was prompted by articles published by the Slobodna
Dalmacija daily on November 26, 27 and 29 last year, alleging that attempts
were made to cover up the raping of young conscripts in the Lora naval complex
in Split.
"Upon examination of the documents and by other procedures, the County
Prosecutor's Office has concluded that there are no reasonable grounds to
suspect that any crimes that are subject to prosecution ex officio have been
committed. Further procedure on the part of the County Prosecutor is therefore
not necessary," the statement said.
