ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - The Croatian government has nothing to do with either Jure Kapetanovic or the report on negotiations with General Ante Gotovina, government spokesman Ratko Macek said on Wednesday, dismissing an article in the latest issue of the Globus weekly.

"Everything else is clearly stated in the (joint) statement by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and President Stjepan Mesic," Macek stressed.

Sanader and Mesic yesterday called on all relevant bodies of state administration to step up the search for General Gotovina, who is indicted by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

The statement is aimed at strengthening Croatia's efforts to solve this last outstanding issue in cooperation with the Hague tribunal.

The Globus weekly reported that government envoy Jure Kapetanovic negotiated with Gotovina in Bosnia two and a half months ago. The former flight control chief from Zagreb, now working in Brussels, is said to have tried to talk Gotovina into surrendering to the tribunal.

The article said that Gotovina had been transferred to Bosnia-Herzegovina from an unknown location to meet Kapetanovic.
