ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - A probe carried out by the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development into decisions by the Croatian Telecommunications Agency and its council regarding two tenders from 2004 has revealed no irregularities or elements requiring the annulment of the decisions, Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said at a news conference in Zagreb on Monday.

This means that Croatia has got the third mobile operator - the Swedish-Croatian consortium Tele2 - since the investigation also confirmed the Telecommunications Agency Council's decision from December last year to award the company a combined operating licence for the second and third generations of mobile telephony (GSM/UMTS).

The deadline for the signing of the contract with Tele2 is February 2, and the company is expected to pay 172 million kuna for the first year of operation.

Over the past two weeks, the ministry had investigated the work of the Telecommunications Agency and its council at the request of companies which were not awarded the operating licence in the first and second bidding round - in the first case it was Tele2 and in the second Match Telecom and Croatia Mobile.

Minister Kalmeta today also said that a summary of the October 2002 agreement between the government and Deutsche Telekom (DT) on the sale of Croatian Telecom shares to the German company would be made public at the ministry on January 27.

Under the agreement signed on October 17, 2002, DT became the owner of 51 percent of HT shares by buying an additional 16 percent of shares at a price of 500 million euros.

Before the signing of that contract, in October 1999 DT became HT's strategic partner by buying 35 percent of HT shares from the government at a price of 850 million US dollars.

Neither of the contracts was ever made public, although this was requested on a number of occasions by parliamentary deputies and some associations and trade unions.
