ZAGREB, Jan 21 (Hina) - Croatia's Chief Public Prosecutor will not initiate criminal proceedings against Jutarnji List reporter Antonija Knezevic for voting twice in the second round of the presidential election on January 16, Deputy Prosecutor Dragan Novosel said on Friday.

Although what Knezevic did qualifies as a criminal offence under Article 118 of the Criminal Code, the Chief Public Prosecutor has concluded that there was no intent on the journalist's part to commit a crime but to prove the possibility of abusing the electoral law, Novosel said.

The police had left to the Chief Public Prosecutor to decide whether or not to press charges against the journalist.

Knezevic, who holds dual Croatian and Bosnian citizenship, cast her ballot in Karlovac and later in Mostar to prove that it was possible to abuse the electoral law.

The Criminal Code says that anyone who votes twice or who casts their ballot on behalf of another voter faces a fine or a prison sentence of up to one year.
