This will make payment transactions easier as the Croatian IBAN will be accepted in international payment operations, the statement said.
The Croatian commercial banks can already issue an IBAN to their clients, but will be obliged to do so as of October 1, 2007.
The Croatian IBAN is a unique customer account identifier at a bank managing kuna and/or foreign currency accounts of participants in the payment system. The use of the IBAN is obligatory in all European Union countries and it is being introduced in countries aspiring to join the EU.
