BELGRADE, Jan 15 (Hina) - Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub
Labus, who has recently been appointed the chief of the Serbian government's
team for negotiations with the European Union on the Stabilisation and
Association Agreement (SAA), has said that the country's integration into the
EU could be finished by 2012 provided that Belgrade immediately fulfilled its
commitments towards the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.Labus, who took part in a round table discussion on European prospects
of Serbia, said on Saturday in Belgrade that in case the positive developments
now ensued, a feasibility study could be drawn up in March and formal
negotiations on the SAA could start in September this year.
Labus added that Serbian PM Vojislav Kostunica was responsible for the
honouring of the said obligation, namely full cooperation with the tribunal.
Labus said that the other challenge for the 2012 agenda "is a problem
whether the state union of Serbia-Montenegro is functional" and stressed that
in 2006 its status must be defined.
