ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - The State Election Commission (DIP) President, Ivica Crnic, on Saturday called on Croatians to go to the polls tomorrow and elect the Croatian President.

There are 4,404,976 eligible voters in the country and abroad who will be able to vote either for the incumbent President Stjepan Mesic or for Jadranka Kosor, the candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), in Sunday's run off of the presidential elections.

Crnic told the news conference that the vote of citizens "is a contribution to democracy and the expression of the will of the people".

He severely condemned irregularities registered at some polling stations in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the first round of the elections on 2 January.

Although they did not affect the results in the first round, those irregularities "have created a poor image of the elections, and have done great damage not only to other polling committees but also to the reputation of Croatia," the DIP chief said, calling an all polling committees to perform their duty with full responsibility.

The second round of the polls will be observed by 2,039 monitors, which is by 222 monitors more than in the first round.
