SOLIN, Jan 10 (Hina) - A plaque commemorating World War Two Ustasha officials Mile Budak and Jure Francetic, which was set up in Solin near the southern coastal city of Split on Sunday morning, was removed later in the evening, the spokesman for Split-Dalmatia County Police Ninoslav Curic said on Monday.

The plaque was removed by local utility workers and police officers following the instructions of the Solin authorities, Curic said.

The 1 x 0.5 metre black marble plaque reading "In Memory of Fallen Croatian Heroes Mile Budak and Jure Francetic" was placed in a public area in Solin's Priko Vode neighbourhood. Flowers were placed and candles lit by the plaque yesterday.

According to Curic, there were no incidents during today's removal of the plaque when a few onlookers gathered near the site.

County police are collecting information as to who placed the plaque. Petty offence charges will be pressed against perpetrators, Curic said.
