Speaking at a press conference in the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka, Linic said that "encouraging allegations of a possible environmental disaster without making an expert assessment is politicking".
Linic called on Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to open a public debate and ask experts for an opinion on the issue.
The SDP deputy called on voters to go to the polls in the second round of the presidential election on January 16 and cast their ballots for the incumbent president Stjepan Mesic.
Linic said that in his previous five-year term Mesic led Croatia out of international isolation, helped the country get closer to the European Union and assisted in creating good relations with its neighbours, while on the home front he promoted the interests of workers.
