ZAGREB, Dec 17 (Hina) - The Croatian Jewish community Bet Israel
on Saturday evening marked the holiday of Hanukkah in remembrance of the
victory of the Maccabees over Antiochus IV (in 164 B.C.) and the rededication
of the Temple. Before lighting a candle at a ceremony in the offices
of the Journalists' House in Zagreb, Rabbi Kotel Da-Don welcomed President
Stjepan Mesic, who joined the ceremony wearing a yarmulke, the traditional
Jewish cap.
When we see the President wearing a yarmulke, we need not say anything
else, Da-Don said, adding that the latest accusations directed at Mesic were
unfounded.
