ZAGREB, Dec 6 (Hina) - A seminar was held in the children's hospital in Zagreb on Wednesday to mark the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

UNICEF representatives and Croatian experts and officials talked about UNICEF campaigns and activities in Croatia while it was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and since it gained independence.

"UNICEF has for decades been recognised as the most influential advocate of children in the world, starting from its establishment in 1946 when it began sending aid in medicine and food to children in the war-ravaged Europe," the chairman of the Croatian paediatric society, Josip Grguric, said.

From the end of the Second World War until the 1970s Croatia received assistance from UNICEF, after which it became an aid donor until the Homeland Defence War.

During that war it again became a recipient of aid from UNICEF and since 2002 it has again been an aid donor, said the head of the UNICEF office for Croatia, Tanja Radocaj.

Currently, the UN organisation is conducting two campaigns in Croatia: "Stop Violence Against Children", and "Every Child Needs A Family".
