The Croatian president and the Belgian king have met several times over the past few years, and King Albert II and his wife Queen Paola have twice spent their summer vacations in Croatia.
King Albert II and Queen Paola spent three weeks cruising along the Croatian Adriatic coast in 2001. Enchanted by its beauty, the following year they again chose Croatia as their summer destination.
On Wednesday afternoon, Mesic was scheduled to meet European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso at a working lunch, and hold talks with NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
At the end of his two-day visit, the Croatian president was due to visit the Croatian Catholic Mission in Liege and meet representatives of the Croatian community there.
