BRUSSELS, Dec 5 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic in Brussels on Tuesday held talks with the Minister-President (prime minister) of Wallonia, Elio Di Rupo, about Croatia's cooperation with Wallonia.

The talks focused on the possibility of cooperation between Croatia and Wallonia, given the fact that regions as federal units in Belgium have the authority to sign international agreements, spokeswoman for the Croatian President's Office Danijela Barisic said.

Mesic and di Rupo also talked about specific areas in which economic cooperation was possible such as free zones, local airports, environmental protection, small and medium-sized entrepreneurship and tourism.

Di Rupo stressed Wallonia's strong support to Croatia on its path to the European Union, Barisic said.

On Tuesday evening, Mesic held talks with an OSCE special envoy and president of the Belgian-Croatian chamber for economic cooperation and promotion of culture, Pierre Chevalier.

Mesic and Chevalier talked about the situation in Southeast Europe and Chevalier informed the Croatian president of the OSCE ministerial conference that ended in Brussels on Tuesday.

Mesic also held talks with Brussels Mayor Freddy Thielmans.

This evening the Croatian head of state is scheduled to attend a dinner to be given by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on the occasion of 15th anniversary of the country's independence.

On Wednesday, Mesic is scheduled to hold talks with King Albert II of Belgium, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Mesic will end his trip to Belgium by visiting the Croatian Catholic Mission in Liege and meeting representatives of the Croat community in the eastern Belgian town,
