The Council, to be chaired by HDZ president and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, was established at a meeting of the HDZ leadership and retired generals.
The Council will address issues concerning war veterans and the promotion of the truth about the 1991-95 war, HDZ vice president, Deputy PM and War Veterans Minister Jadranka Kosor told the press.
She said the senior officers welcomed the documents from NATO's recent summit in Riga and that on the party level they would take part in drawing up a communication strategy aimed at informing citizens about the advantages of Croatia's accession to NATO.
Answering a question from the press, Kosor said the HDZ Council was not set up to compete with the War Veterans Council of the Social Democrats, the leading opposition party. She added that the HDZ election platform said the party would restore dignity to war veterans and their families.
Kosor announced that a War Veterans Council would be established at the War Veterans Ministry next week.
