The minister informed them of Croatia's negotiations on EU and NATO accession and said that Croatian emigrants were an important link in bilateral relations.
The talks also addressed the potential of economic cooperation between Canadian Croats and Croatia. The minister presented the Croatian government's Hitro.hr project aimed at reducing administrative obstacles to investing.
According to the Canadian census, there are some 250,000 Croats in Canada. There are 19 Croat Catholic parishes and dozens of Croatian language and culture schools. In Ottawa there is a club of Croat parliamentary deputies. Waterloo University has a Croatian department established in 1988, teaching language, culture, history and literature.
