David Hosking, a British doctor and scientist, was decorated with the Order of the Croatian Morning Star with the image of Katarina Zrinska for his contribution to cooperation between the Zagreb University Medical School and the Zagreb Clinic for Women's Diseases and Obstetrics with Nottingham University.
As an expert on osteoporosis, Professor Hosking gave a significant contribution to spreading the awareness of the gravity of that disease and the need of its prevention in Croatia.
Professor Fischer Appelt, a long-time chancellor of Hamburg University, was decorated with the Order of the Croatian Morning Star with the image of Rudjer Boskovic for his contribution to the promotion and development of the Interuniversity Centre in Dubrovnik and his help to the city during and after the 1991-1995 war in Croatia.
Expressing gratitude for the decorations, Professor Hosking said that Croatia had made visible progress in the last ten years, particularly
in the academic community, which he said today occupied an important place in the international academic community.
