Roncevic today held talks with Afghanistan's ministers of foreign and internal affairs and deputy defence minister, who was standing in for the minister who was on a visit to New York.
Roncevic said that he informed his hosts that Croatia would remain in the peace mission in Afghanistan.
The minister went on to say that he was pleased with the position of most Afghan officials, who thanked him for Croatia's presence in their country, but added that they were aware that UN forces could not remain in Afghanistan forever and that the Afghan people had to assume responsibility for the situation in their country.
The situation in Afghanistan over the past month was peaceful and police have severed a chain of smugglers and planters of explosive devices, Roncevic said. He added that the public in Croatia was partially wrong to believe that Kabul was a completely safe city and that its outskirts were dangerous.
The minister said that Croatian soldiers were well and that they were performing their tasks professionally. Foreign officials have given very positive evaluations of their performance, Roncevic added.
The north of Afghanistan is safer, while the south is more volatile. Part of Croatian soldiers who supervise the Afghan army are deployed in Kandahar and so far, there have been no problems, Roncevic said.
