ZAGREB, Nov 21 (Hina) - A spokesman for the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has said the ruling party affirms its commitment to the respect of the rule of law in every case, including that of Branimir Glavas, and that it wants to enable the judiciary to be independent, without prejudging rulings and with the assumption of innocence as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The spokesman for the HDZ parliamentary club of deputies, Gordan Jandrokovic, was speaking to the press on Tuesday after a meeting of the club's presidency and the HDZ National Council.

Jandrokovic said that for the reasons stated above those two party bodies had adopted a unanimous decision supporting in full the decision of the parliamentary Credentials and Privileges Commission to strip Glavas of immunity.

Glavas is an independent MP currently in custody on suspicion of war crimes against civilians committed in 1991.

Jandrokovic also said the HDZ club of deputies would endorse the 2007 draft national budget, assessing that it sees to a balanced development of Croatia and economic development based on knowledge without reducing the existing social rights.
