Two opposition parties criticise draft budget for 2007

RIJEKA, Nov 21 (Hina) - A senior official of the Social Democratic Party, Slavko Linic, on Tuesday criticised a draft state budget for 2007 which the Croatian Government proposed, saying that the draft reflected "the total inefficiency of Ivo Sanader and the incumbent government in the economic policy".

The MP of the strongest opposition party told the press in Rijeka that for the past three years, the Sabnader cabined did not manage to ensure an economic growth rate higher than five percent.

"This insufficient economic growth represents basic circumstances for the projection of such a budget," Linic said.

He believes that the results of the government's work were poor for citizens, and salaries rose by a mere one percent.

The leader of the regional Promorsko-Goranski Party (PGS), Nikola Ivanis, who held a separate news conference also in Rijeka today criticised the draft budget for "failing to enable equal development of all regions in the country".

Commenting on amendments to the law on financing local self-government units, Ivanis whose party also holds seats in the national parliament, said that those were just "cosmetic changes".

On Tuesday, the parliamentary finance and state budget committee, that held a session in Zagreb, endorsed the government's motion for next year's budget.

Several other parliamentary committees also okayed the draft.
