OSIJEK, Nov 21 (Hina) - Swiss non-governmental organisation Cause
Communes Vaud has donated 90,000 kuna (approximately 12,000 euros) for the
removal of mines from one hectare of land owned by the Institute of Agriculture
in the eastern city of Osijek. The money was raised through voluntary
contributions from residents of the Vaud canton. The donation was
presented at a meeting between the NGO and the Institute in Osijek on Tuesday.
The deputy director of the Institute, Domagoj Simic, said that 250 of the 750
hectares of land owned by the Institute was still infested with mines left over
from the 1991-1995 war.
The Swiss NGO had previously donated equipment to several primary
schools in the Osijek area and promoted business ties with the Swiss city of
Laussanne.
