The UNESCO experts, led by Centre president Francesco Bandarin, were informed in detail with the project for the renovation of the southern Adriatic port's wharf, known as the riva, which began a month ago amidst the disapproval and protests of part of the local population and some associations who claimed it was inappropriate for the protected party of Split.
The UNESCO experts concluded the project would considerably improve the state of the historical area, by renovating the infrastructure, rationalising the use of space and improving passerby traffic, and that all international standards were met in designing the project, said Marina Protic, spokeswoman for the Split government.
