Sanader says govt. spares no effort to protect Croatia's interests before ICTY

ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has said that his cabinet is sparing no effort to protect Croatia's interests in proceedings before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and is taking some steps "that are maybe not a topic for public discussions".

Sanader said this during Question Time in response to questions by members of parliament who gathered in Zagreb for the start of the 23th session of the parliament on Wednesday morning.

Jozo Rados of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) asked PM Sanader about the matter, and added that in 2002 while he was in the Opposition, Sander "deliberately deluded the public" claiming that his party - the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) - would challenge unacceptable segments from indictments which the Hague-based ICTY issued against Croatians.

Sanader replied that the Croatian interests were being protected in the best way through the promotion of Croatia and thanks to the country's place in the international community.
