"I most resolutely dismiss claims about the state authority's influence on the judiciary, the police and the State Prosecutor's Office," Seks said in Osijek on Saturday at a rally of the HDZ's Osijek-Baranja County branch.
He described as "dangerous defamation" claims that court proceedings against and detention of some persons criminalised the 1991-95 war of independence.
The values of the Homeland War are sacred because it is known whose blood was shed to defend Osijek, Slavonia and Croatia, Seks said.
"A certain number of people parted ways with the HDZ because of separatist ideas," which are incompatible with the HDZ's programme because the HDZ sees Croatia as an integral state in which there is a balanced development of all its regions, he said.
Seks dismissed accusations that the eastern region of Slavonia and Baranja was neglected, claiming the incumbent government is investing a lot of money in many projects, including the construction of the road corridor 5c and the introduction of gas supply in Baranja.
The real care for Slavonia and Baranja will be reflected in the adoption of next year's national budget, he said.
Attending the rally were also Interior Minister Ivica Kirin and Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic. Local HDZ county and city leaders Tomislav Ivic and Dragan Kovacevic said the party was completely consolidated and ready to win local elections and for parliamentary elections next year.
Asked by the press after the meeting how come the HDZ was consolidating when Glavas, a former HDZ member currently on a hunger strike in detention, where he was placed on suspicion of war crimes, Seks said "this is unrelated because the HDZ in Osijek-Baranja County was consolidated and today's rally was a mobilisation rally ahead of the forthcoming elections".
Asked how he viewed, as a man, the fact that his former friend and associate was now in jail, Seks said he did not enjoy it.
"When I was kidnapped and was in prison in 1985, I went on a three-week hunger strike, but I didn't achieve anything apart from losing weight and endangering my health," he said, recommending to Glavas to stop with the hunger strike as it was futile.
