As the only Croatian city to be a member of AVEC, Osijek has decided to follow the example of other member-countries and launch an initiative to set up a national alliance of cultural cities, a member of the Osijek city government, Oliver Grigic, said at a meeting attended by representatives of Varazdin, Sisak, Ilok, Djakovo and Vukovar and a representative of AVEC.
AVEC consists of 32 cities from 11 European countries.
The decision to set up a national network of cultural cities is motivated by the possibility of better presentation and promotion of culture and tourism, Grigic added.
Along with the promotion and protection of cultural heritage, AVEC also works on the promotion of education, economy and tourism.
