The 17th General Assembly of the EWL took place in Prague on 21 and 22 October. Two new national associations, the Macedonian Women"s Lobby and the Women"s Network Croatia, as well as the European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI) were welcomed unanimously into full membership of the EWL, the EWL reported on its web site.
The EWL, with the main offices in Brussels, is the largest umbrella organisation of women"s associations in the European Union (EU). It gathers around 2,000 women's organisations.
The EWL aims at promoting women"s rights and equality between women and men in the European Union. It is active in different areas such as women"s economic and social position, women in decision-making, violence against women, women"s diversity etc. The EWL works mainly with the institutions of the European Union: the European Parliament, the European Commission and the EU Council of Ministers.
