Glavas stripped of parliamentary immunity

ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's Credentials and Privileges Commission on Monday stripped independent deputy Branimir Glavas of his immunity.
ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's Credentials and Privileges Commission on Monday stripped independent deputy Branimir Glavas of his immunity.

By doing so, the commission has complied with the request of the Office of the State Prosecutor so that Glavas could be placed in custody and an investigation could be launched into his alleged involvement in the so called Sellotape case.

The Office of the State Prosecutor requested the stripping of immunity following a proposal of the Osijek County Prosecutor's Office.

The Commission has postponed a debate on the request to strip Glavas of immunity, filed by the Zagreb County Court, saying that the request was legally dubious, given that investigating judge Zdenko Posavec had set detention for Glavas before he was stripped of his parliamentary immunity.

Before the voting, Vlado Jukic and Pero Kovacevic of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) and independent deputy Slaven Letica left the session.

All Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) members of the Commission but Ivana Sucec Trakostancec, who abstained from voting, voted to approve Glavas's stripping of parliamentary immunity. Ivana Krivec Posavec of the Social democrats also approved stripping Glavas of immunity.
