According to HTZ figures, Americans and Canadians made over 400,000 overnight stays, which is 29 percent more than last year.
The number of tourists from the US and Canada does not include tourists on cruise ships. The HTZ estimates that between 200,000 and 300,000 Americans and Canadians visited Croatia on cruise ships.
Americans like to come to Croatia because of the country's natural beauties and cultural heritage, the HTZ reported, adding that a lot of Americans were coming to Croatia on private yachts.
The HTZ expects the number of tourists from the US to go up with the introduction of new air routes. Delta Airlines, in cooperation with Air France, is introducing routes to Zagreb on 29 October.
The association of US tour-operators earlier this year declared Croatia the best tourist destination in 2006, which also increased the interest of the US media in the country's tourism services.
"Some 120 articles and 60 TV broadcasts were made about Croatia," the HTZ in New York said.
