Singh told a news conference the referendum on Serbia's constitution, called for October 28 and 29, would not affect the process of defining Kosovo's final status.
The negotiations on defining Kosovo's status, led by the UN chief negotiator for the status of the province, Martti Ahtisaari, will continue in accordance with Resolution 1244, the spokesman said, adding that it was UNMIK's duty to facilitate the negotiations.
He said UNMIK and the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) would be in charge of security during the referendum, adding that any attempt to destabilise the province would be prevented.
