ZAGREB/OSLO, Oct 9 (Hina) - Croatian Finance Minister Ivan Suker met his Norwegian counterpart Kristina Halvorsen in Oslo on Monday, informing her about Croatia's tax system, privatisation, and macroeconomic indicators, the Croatian Finance Ministry said.

Suker is heading a delegation visiting Norway from October 8 to 10.

Suker said the Croatian government had carried out a strong fiscal adjustment over the past two years, cutting the fiscal deficit from 6.2 per cent of GDP in 2003 to 4.1 per cent in 2005. This year the deficit is expected to account for three per cent of GDP, and further fiscal consolidation is expected to further reduce the general government deficit, which is expected to be reflected in the stabilisation of the public debt.

Halvorsen was interested in the economic situation throughout Croatia, the education system, and the situation on the labour market.

The Norwegian minister was also interested in privatisation. Suker said the continuation of the process would enable a bigger influx of foreign direct investment, and voiced hope that Norwegians would be more interested in investing in Croatia after tomorrow's round-table debate on this issue.
